But<span>\u00a0Unfortunately, it is often a developmental dead end, especially for children with autistic-like behavior. Because\u00a0<\/span>Children (and adults) who are enthusiastic about building towers tend to get stuck on this idea and often find it difficult to expand their imagination to the many other creative ways in which blocks or other materials can be used and combined in patterns and endless variations.<\/p>\n<p><em>'Als <strong>Franklin <\/strong>mit 4 Jahren zu uns in den Kindergarten kam, war es f\u00fcr ihn und uns alle sehr schwierig. (Becky, Kinderg\u00e4rtnerin)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This example shows that building a tower of building blocks is actually a very limited form of learning, especially for children with developmental delays, autism or autistic-like behaviors. This is because stacking things neatly on top of each other requires relatively few and very precise movements and fine motor skills. However, the child learns very little about the different textures of objects or the many ways in which their arms can move or their hands can grasp.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of thinking \u201aWhat else could I do with these materials?\u2018 the focus is on a very specific idea and expectation, i.e. completing the tower and the excitement of seeing it topple or collapse, and then repeating the same experience and excitement with as few variations as possible. But this compromises the child's ability to experience, because the focus is on the minimal movement experience of precise stacking and the subsequent senso-emotional excitement, and on keeping the experience as predictable and the same as possible, rather than seeking new experiences about the different properties of different objects through their own exploratory doing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"et_pb_row_1 et_pb_row et_block_row\"><div class=\"et_pb_column_1 et_pb_column et_pb_column_4_4 et-last-child et_block_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_1 et_pb_text et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_block_module\"><div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><h3>Examples of 2 development-promoting play options for building<\/h3>\n<h4>1. pile things on top of each other<\/h4>\n<p>Die vielf\u00e4ltigen Erfahrungen, die mit damit einhergehen, wenn man Dinge aufeinanderh\u00e4uft, sind genau das Gegenteil des pr\u00e4zisen Turmbauens, da sie das grundlegende allgemeine Verstehen des Kindes von der Welt, und wie Dinge sich verhalten, mit endlosen Variationen erweitern.
